Measurement of Spindle Stiffness by using Magnet Loader

Abstract

In the recent years, demands for high speed spindle are increasing. Especially, controlling of spindle stiffness is getting important issue. For this purpose, it is necessary to measure stiffness of rotating spindle. In this paper, we developed contactless loading device ''magnet loader'' which use magnetic force and attract rotating machine tool. But we attract rotating machine tool by magnet loader, attractive force is reduced by eddy-current which occurs on machine tool. So we use circumferentially grooved dummy tool for preventing the flow of eddy-current, and get large attractive force. By using this dummy tool, we measure spindle stiffness.
