Relation between Workpiece Stiffness and Machining Error in End Milling

Abstract

When the rigidity of a workpiece is low, the machining errors increase due to the workpiece deformation. The purpose of this research is to improve the machining accuracy in the end milling of flexible parts. We focus on the effect of cutting conditions. First, cutting force and workpiece displacement are measured with the decrease of the workpiece rigidity. In this measurement, workpiece displacement of upcut and downcut milling are compared. And, the effect of tool helix angle on the workpiece displacement is investigated.
