Servo Performance Enhancement of High Speed Feed Drivers by Damping Control

Abstract

In order to enhance the servo performance of high speed feed drives used in NC machine tools, a sub-actuator and its controller are introduced. The actuator is a linear motor and the control scheme is a simple velocity feedback control. While a conventional rotary servo motor mainly controls the table motion, the auxiliary linear motor suppresses inherent vibrations. The closed-loop servo performance of the entire feed drive system is examined in simulation and experimentation.
