Measurement of Volumetric Accuracy of Three-axis Machine Tools using Open-loop Laser Tracker

This paper proposes a new measurement device to measure the volumetric accuracy of machine tools, which is called “open-loop laser tracker” in this research. Unlike the conventional laser tracker where the laser direction is automatically controlled to the target (a reltroreflector attached to the machine spindle), this device controls the laser direction only based on the angle of rotary axes calculated from commanded target po-sition and device position. This paper investigates the proposed measurement method both analytically and ex-perimentally.
